skyz posted PHD dillema

Hi everyone! I'm new here. I am planning to pursue PHD but I am still working on getting a topic and proposal for myself. I would like to know if anyone of you can share your experience on how you get your desired topic and how you plan your PHD afterwards (your struggle, experience, getting the right supervisor, getting the best university and so on).

Jean Lee Farmer posted Unexpected hurdles

So I was going to start my lit rev- 2 months ago!I love my topic and the way I have designed my research. I have 2 very busy teenagers - academically and socially responsible kids who need to be carted around. No problem with a husband who teaches at the same school they attend. All I'd do is get up in the morning get to university, do some teaching, meetings come home cook supper if needed and then hit the books. Then the husband gets knocked do... [read more]

Leigh Dalton: I just wrote a post last night on my blog about how I have it so good. How I just want this PhD to be over so that I can enjoy the wonderful things in life. I accused myself of wallowing in self-pity about a PhD when the world - in so many ways - is ... [read more]

Sian Lewin posted The Portal

I used the portal for the first time last week - I found it very helpful and would really recommend it! It would be good to have some more interaction during the week here and on Facebook so I know I'm not alone with all my frustrations, distractions and other challenges. The picture shows one of biggest obstacles...the cat sits on all my books and papers and 'stops' me from getting work done!

Yay for some reason today the portal planner decided to show itself and I was able to write my weekly goals! I felt a bit left out last time not being able to do it! Now I just have to stick to it and get my ethics application done...Off I go! Hope everybody is getting on well, Alessia

Claudia Hunt posted Is there any happy Phd'er

Here's my thoughts…I'm a starting PhD….I think the whole thing will start on July or in October…who knows!! But I am starting to wonder whether there are any happy PhD'ers out there…when you speak about your PhD project everyone looks at you like you're a lunatic! And in the internet there are plenty of posts along the lines " why NOT to do a PhD". So among you who are already studying or finished your PhD is there any of you happy with your opti... Donna Peach posted Literature Review

My overarching aim for this writing week is to consolidate my literature review and extend my reading to understand the complexity of my pluralistic methodology. My focus is on the construction and experience of self in adoptive relationships. I have an interest in dialogism, phenomenology and social constructionism. It would be great to connect with others who have similar interests.

Donna Peach: I have now started to complete the excel spread sheet for the AWP writing week but realise that I need a pre-plan so that I have all my preparation done in advance so I can hit the ground running on 1st July. Lots to do but feeling if I can compartme... [read more]
